Our second baby Colt Jay Sampson II arrived January 3 at 10:11 am. He was 7 lb. 6 oz. and 19 inches long. He came 2 weeks early so it came as a big surprise that Sunday morning when I blew my nose and my water broke. Colt was driving home from work in Hurricane and he had his phone on silent so he didn't get the phone call. Luckily he gave me one of the guys he works with phone number. I told Colt it was time to go. He immediately got the nervous stomach. I told him I would start driving because we were driving to St. George to have the baby. I loaded Skye in the car and threw in the baby's car seat. Luckily I packed a little bag for an occasion like this which is surprising because I never plan ahead. We drove to the edge of town to meet Colt. Colt jumped out of the car and said, "I have to go to the bathroom!" I was shocked and yet not surprised at the same time. We pulled over at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Cedar and Colt ran in to go to the bathroom. At this time my contractions were 5 minutes apart. Colt started speeding down the freeway, and I told him to slow down. By the time we got to Leeds I was telling him to hurry up! When we pulled into the hospital my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. The nurse at the front desk did not believe that I was in labor. She stuck us in a room for 20 minutes and I was dying! She finally came in and checked us in while talking to Colt about P90X and how sore she was. I wanted to tell her to trade places with me for a minute and I would show her sore! Finally she checked me and said, "Oh we better get you over to labor and delivery!". I walked over to the labor room and sat down on the bed and had to push. Let's just say that nurse took me seriously then. She ran over the the intercom and said, "I need a doctor, I need nurses, STAT!" There was no time for an epidural, or even an ounce of pain medication. CJ was born 10 minutes later. My doctor barely made it in time. So what did I learn from all of this? Have my baby in the same town I live in, child birth hurts like the dickens, and most importantly, don't blow your nose too hard when you are 38 weeks pregnant.
